Background of the Study
Drug abuse has become a significant social challenge in many parts of Nigeria, particularly in rural areas. In Mararaba Local Government Area (LGA), Nasarawa State, drug abuse is prevalent among youths, negatively impacting their health, education, and overall quality of life. Media campaigns, especially those focused on educating the public about the dangers of drug abuse, have proven to be effective tools for raising awareness and promoting behavior change. Various forms of media, including television, radio, and social media, have been used to highlight the consequences of drug abuse and promote prevention strategies. This study seeks to explore the impact of media campaigns on curbing drug abuse in Mararaba, focusing on the extent to which these campaigns influence attitudes and behaviors toward drug use in the community.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing awareness of the dangers of drug abuse in Mararaba LGA, the problem persists. Media campaigns aimed at educating the public on the harmful effects of drug abuse may not always achieve the desired impact, due to factors such as inadequate reach, limited content engagement, and cultural barriers. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of media campaigns in reducing drug abuse among youths in Mararaba, identifying the key factors that contribute to the success or failure of such campaigns in the community.
